TEACHING TUESDAY [05.02.23]

Welcome to Teaching Tuesday! If you are new here, I’m a former teacher, have a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and am now a homeschool mom. You can read more about that journey here.

Every Tuesday I’m going to share an at home learning idea for preschool and elementary age kids, new curriculum resources and a freebie or two!

Snap cubes (also known as unifix cubes) are an amazing tool to have at your disposal. They aren’t just for math, although they are an extremely valuable math tool. You can also use them for building letters and words. Here’s a few more ideas for how to use snap cubes by age group:

PRESCHOOL

  • Sort cubes by color.

  • Count and sort cubes into corresponding circles.

  • Create an AB Pattern.

  • Build letters.

ELEMENTARY

  • Build snap cube pictures.

  • Build letters and/or sight words.

  • Create more complex patterns (AABB, ABC, ABB, etc.)

  • Sort stacks from smallest to largest.

  • Compare values.

  • Use to measure and compare weight.

  • Count by multiples of 2, 5 and 10.

  • Explore and build number bonds.

Here are new resources that I’ve been working on this week!
