LIFE LATELY [08.30.23]

I’m sharing a little Life Lately. It’s a little of what we are doing, what we are eating, what we are wearing and a little bit of whatever else is on my mind all in one post.

Jack has settled into his school routine and last week was finally Korben’s turn for Meet the Teacher. We absolutely LOVE our preschool and he is so excited to have a big boy desk. Both of my boys definitely thrive on routine (and so does their mama 🤣).

Our house is officially on the market and we’ve had lots of showings, so we have made ourselves at home at a hometown diner down the street. They serve breakfast all day, so Korben has affectionately renamed it “The Breakfast Place” and asks daily if we will be going!

I have been busy in the kitchen canning up summer fruit into jam and jelly! Last week I made strawberry jam and spiced watermelon rind jelly.

Back to school means back to school uniforms. I’ve tried lots of different brands over the past few years and always end up frustrated because of fading and shrinking. This year, I went with the Cat and Jack brand from Target for polos, shorts and pants. I’ve already washed them multiple times and have been so impressed, they still look brand new! BONUS, they are very wrinkle resistant, so I don’t have to spend valuable time steaming them too.

I also LOVE Cat and Jack’s clothing guarantee. They guarantee all of their clothes for one year!

This week last year, we were enjoyed a long 4-day weekend. Lots of brother play time and Jack got to go on a special trip to the Jurassic Park experience with Sean!

I was talking with a girlfriend about this the other day at our Meet the Teacher for preschool. This time last year I was in the THICK of it with Korben and potty training. I am not the person to come to for potty training advice. It was an uphill battle with BOTH of my boys and in the thick of it, it’s truly all you can think and worry about and it feels like it will NEVER end. Everything is temporary. That phase was temporary and while I wouldn’t wish potty training on my worst enemy, I know that it refined me in the process. It gave me a little more patience when it felt like things took forever, a little more grace when there were accidents and ALOT more prayer.

I really like the last line of this encouragement.

Hold on where you can.
Let go when you must.
Inhale the happy.
Exhale the hard.

Here’s what’s in my cart this week!

My cart has been filled with kitchen stuff this week! Remember I said I’ve been making jam and jelly? Hoosier Farms is my favorite brand of pectin. I also really like their clear jel and pickle crisp!

I ran out of vacuum sealer bags, so I grabbed a refill of those. These will last me for quite a while!

In an effort to try to cut out red dye, I tried my hand at making fruit snacks for the kids. They turned out amazing and the boys LOVED that they were in the shape of Legos thanks to these silicone molds. I used the Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin, which sounds strange, but there was no taste at all.
