TEACHING TUESDAY [10.11.23]

Welcome to Teaching Tuesday! If you are new here, I’m a former teacher, have a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and am now a homeschool mom. You can read more about that journey here.

Every Tuesday I’m going to share an at home learning idea for preschool and elementary age kids, new curriculum resources and a freebie or two!

Tracing looks so simple, who would think that it’s such an incredible pre-writing skill. Here’s a few ways that tracing is beneficial to your preschooler:

Fine Motor Skills: Simple activities like tracing shapes and lines builds muscles and coordination in their hands.

Concentration: Gripping a pencil, crayon or marker, moving the hand in a specific direction and moving the hand from left to right to complete the line takes alot of concentration. The process of drawing different shapes, zig zags, loops and lines keeps the child engaged.

Pre-Writing: Tracing lines help differentiate between the child’s dominant and non-dominant hand, allows practice for pencil grip and manipulation and tracing the different shapes is a prerequisite to forming letters.

Creativity: Tracing lines and shapes helps your child create movement which will translate to combining shapes to create drawings in the future. For example, learning to trace a circle and a triangle will turn into drawing a head and body on a picture in the future.

Here are new resources that I’ve been working on this month!

You can purchase the units above through my Teachers Pay Teachers store by clicking the photos.

These 4 units are also available in my VIP PASS (OCTOBER 2023), a low cost monthly subscription for new curriculum resources (or save 15% on a yearly subscription with code VIP15). Once you are a member you have access to all previous VIP PASS curriculum downloads as well, forever!
