OCTOBER REWIND {2023}
While everyone in our neighborhood is gearing up for Trick or Treating tonight, I’m pulling out my Christmas Tree! Jack loves handing out the candy at the door for Halloween, so while the boys do that, I’ll be decking the halls.
I started decorating on November 1 the year I was pregnant with Korben. My induction was scheduled for November 25 and I knew that I would not want to be decorating while having a newborn, so I decided to decorate November 1 that year. It was the best decision I ever made and now I do it every year. You can still be thankful and celebrate Thanksgiving with a Christmas tree in the corner!

This month has been exceptionally busy with lots of family and school activities, but I’ve managed to do a bit of canning too. This weekend was the last weekend that my favorite farmer’s market was open. I grabbed 40 pounds of apples to restock our apple sauce, apple syrup, apple jam….basically all things apples!
I also learned how to render beef tallow this month. I bought 30 pounds of beef fat from a local rancher and rendered it down over several days. I’ll use it for cooking and will be whipping some with essential oils for a skin balm.
I’ve really been wanting a large roaster for a while to be able to do larger batches of things like chicken stock for canning. I’d decided I was going to put one on my list for Christmas and then a brand new, in box roaster popped up on Facebook Marketplace for $20. You bet I ran as fast as I could to get it and I have LOVED using it the past few weeks. I was able to do a huge bath of chicken stock, applesauce, even baked potatoes for our Mom’s Group last week!
