TEACHING TUESDAY [09.19.23]

Welcome to Teaching Tuesday! If you are new here, I’m a former teacher, have a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and am now a homeschool mom. You can read more about that journey here.

Every Tuesday I’m going to share an at home learning idea for preschool and elementary age kids, new curriculum resources and a freebie or two!

I’ve talked about Sticker Stories before and how they are an amazing way to get the creative juices going for writing, especially for reluctant writers.

Another way to practice writing, is what I call “Experience Reflection” writing. This is not typically a creative writing piece, but more of a personal narrative style of writing. This is a great morning work or writing center warm up, but for us we do this writing most in restaurants. I know that sounds strange, but my son needs alot of extra practice with writing, so I always keep one of his writing journals in my purse for those days that we eat out at a restaurant or are waiting at a doctor’s appointment. I’ve already written a few generic prompts in the journal at the top of the pages so that it’s ready to go.

Here’s a few ideas for personal narrative writing prompts:

  • Describe your favorite birthday party.

  • What is your favorite holiday memory?

  • What are three goals you have this year?

  • Describe the best part of your week.

  • Draw and write about one thing you did this weekend.

  • What is one thing that you are proud of?

Here are new resources that I’ve been working on this month!

You can purchase the units above through my Teachers Pay Teachers store by clicking the photo above.

These 4 units are also available in my VIP PASS (SEPTEMBER 2023), a low cost monthly subscription for new curriculum resources (or save 15% on a yearly subscription with code VIP15). Once you are a member you have access to all previous VIP PASS curriculum downloads as well, forever!
